Karim Zein


Votre texte ici!Karim Zein is President and co-founder of sba since 1995. Educated in Lebanon and Switzerland he has a Bachelor in Philosophy (1987), a Master in Business Administration (1989) and a Master in Environmental Management (1993). He is married and has 2 children.

After having worked several years in the family business of water treatment, he fully dedicated his time to sba's projects and programmes. He is active in promoting eco-efficiency, cleaner production and corporate social responsibility principles for business and industry in the Middle East and North Africa Region. Additionally, he has a key role in implementing environmental economic analyses at macro level as well as sectorial level in several Arab and African countries.

He is regularly involved in teaching in several postgraduate and master programmes in Swiss and Arab Universities and has published numerous articles on sustainable development, environmental economics and cleaner production.


Majdoulaine Semlali


Votre texte ici!Majdoulaine Semlali Wazner is co-Director at sba and is now in charge of all training and pedagogical programmes. She has a Bachelor of Science in Biology (1999, Morocco) and a Master in Natural Resources and Environment (2000, France).

After a few years with an engineering consulting firm in France, she joined sba in 2003 and was involved in several projects with environmental and social dimensions in the Middle East and North Africa region. Having managed several postgraduate programmes with universities that partnered with sba, she became specialised in continuous training for executives from enterprises, industries, ministries and universities in the framework of international cooperation.

Her strengths are development, organisation and coordination of face-to-face and distance learning (e-learning) in eco-management, cleaner production, environmental economics and corporate social responsibility. She is also in charge of drafting and editing environmental and pedagogical guides and manuals.


Liliana Almeida


Votre texte ici!Liliana Almeida is administrative responsible at sba since 2009. She has studied commerce and administration of enterprises. Since September 2010 and in parallel to her work at sba, she is preparing a Bachelor in Business Administration at the Business High School of Yverdon.

She is in charge of all administration matters as well as accounting and makes sure that sba applies on a daily basis good environmental management in its operations and its purchasing. She is also responsible for the regular updating of the web site and the technical library as well as the e-library.

Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga


Votre texte ici!Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga is an engineer in applied sciences and a project analyst. He is specialized in integrated rural development, project management, community training as well as monitoring and evaluation systems. He is married and has six children.

Since 1983, Mr. Maïga was involved in many applied research projects and participatory developments in collaboration with the beneficiary populations. His main fields of expertise tackle the following areas: analysis of natural resources management and participatory approaches; regional and local planning of economic development; definition and enhancement of production systems for the agriculture and breeding sectors; research and definition of agriculture policies; improvement of rural economies in relation with an integrated water management, etc.

He collaborates with several organizations in the framework of national and international programmes (CILSS, PDDAA -NEPAD, PEI-UNEP, GIRE-DNH, IUCN, sba , etc.) and he is regularly involved in the development of new concepts and conducts research works in the field of sustainable development, pastoral management, land use systems and poverty in Mali. He is research associate for the selection of structuring indicators for the integrated rural development.

Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga is working with sba as a senior expert in the framework of its environmental economic analyses as well as its environmental strategic assessment of rural development policies and programmes in Mali.


Amine Ahlafi


Votre texte ici!Amine Ahlafi is architect-master planner and consultant in sustainable development. He is the founder of 2d.DAMA agency that is working in sustainable development, responsible tourism, urban design and architecture. Educated in Morocco and France he has an Architect Diploma from the National School of Architecture in Morocco (1999), and a Master in Urban Geography in France (2000). He is married and has 2 children.

After having worked several years in the Tourism Ministry (Public), for a financial and development institution (Private) and for the Foundation Mohammed VI for the Protection of the Environment (NGO), he fully dedicated his time to 2d.Dama's projects and programmes.

He is active in promoting sustainable development, responsible tourism, environmental education and sustainable architecture and urbanism in Morocco and abroad. Additionally, he contributes to national and international studies and actions with the collaboration of several professional networks. He is also adviser for some of the main sustainable development stakeholders in Morocco.

Amine Ahlafi is involved with sba in promoting and applying the Best Environmental Practices in the Moroccan hotel sector.


António Mandlate


António Mandlate, is a senior technical Advisor at the Fishery Ministry in Mozambique. He has a degree in business management (2003) and received also a training in formulating public policies (2010). He has 5 children.

After having worked in two fishing companies and at the Fisheries Development Fund, he is now working at the National Directorate of Fisheries Economics and Politics (within the Economic Analysis Department), where he is conducting related analysis of the economic performance of the fisheries sector.

António Mandlate is involved with sba in the Economic assessment of poverty and environment linkages in Mozambique.


Bassam Hayek


Votre texte ici!Bassam Hayek is the manager and founder of Al Hayek for Environmental Consultancy (2010). Educated in Jordan and United Kingdom; he has a PhD and a MSc in Chemical Engineering (1994) from University of Wales Swansea, a BSc in Chemical Engineering (1989) from Jordan University of Science & Technology. He is married and has 3 children.

Bassam Hayek worked for 15 years at the Royal Scientific Society (RSS) of Jordan, he started in 1994 as a researcher at the Environment Research Centre (ERC) of RSS, became the head of the Environmental Studies Division in 1996, then the Director of ERC (2000 – 2009). He fully dedicated his time to developing ERC projects, programmes and activities including the cleaner production, hazardous material management, environmental assessment, and environmental bio-safety. He became an independent consultant for environment and sustainability in 2010 and established his firm “Al Hayek for Environmental Consultancy”. He is active in promoting key topics and tools for advancing environmental performance such as sustainable consumption and production, integrated environmental resources management, good environmental governance and others.

He is involved in teaching master programme students at Princess Sumaya University for Technology in Jordan, delivers specialised training modules and has authored and co-authored a number of papers and book chapters.

Bassam Hayek is involved with sba in developing a new environment consultancy services for the Middle East and specifically for the Gulf countries.


Boukary Ouedraogo


Votre texte ici!Boukary Ouédraogo is a Professor (Economist) in the Law Department at the University of Ouaga2 (Burkina Faso) since 2002. Educated in Burkina Faso and France, he has a Bachelor in Natural Sciences (1990), a Master in Business Administration (1994), a Master in Industrial and Environmental Economics (1996) and a PhD in Economics (2002). He has also an International Certificate in E-learning (COSELEARN). He is finishing now a PhD in Education Sciences at the University of Montreal (Canada). He is married and has 4 children.

After having conducted field work researches for several years in forests management and Chaving cordinated an inter-university research program at the CEDRES/University of Ouagadougou, he is now fully dedicating his time to teaching and to research. He is also an associated researcher at the Theoretical and Applied Economics Research Group (GREThA) at the University of Bordeaux 4 (France) and the Inter-Universities Research Centre for the Training and the Teaching Profession (CRIFPE) at the University of Montreal (Canada).

He has published several articles in international specialised magazines on forest management, energy economics, microfinance and poverty in Burkina Faso.

Boukary Ouédraogo is working with sba as a national expert in the framework of the project on Economic valuation of natural resources and the environment in Burkina Faso.


Damien Lankoande


Votre texte ici!Gountiéni D. Lankoandé is Director of research at the CEDRES (Centre for Economic and Social Studies, Documentation and Research) at the University of Ouaga 2. He is an experienced field researcher namely for applied work in the agriculture field, agriculture policies, environmental agriculture, microcredits and poverty, social protection in the rural areas, etc.

His thesis work focused on the factors affecting the access to microcredit of the poor in the rural areas. He is involved in a number of research projects including FAC Ghana-Burkina Transect (IDS), social protection in Burkina (FAC-IDS), poverty and environment (UNDP, UNEP, sba, Ecosys). He has been involved in many studies in the field of environmental economics in numerous countries of the West Africa region, including Burkina Faso, Ghana, Niger and Togo.

Gountiéni D. Lankoandé is working with sba as a national expert in the framework of the project on Economic valuation of natural resources and the environment in Burkina Faso.


David Maradan


Votre texte ici!David Maradan is the President-director of Ecosys Ltd, a private company specialized in applied and environmental economics founded in 1988 by the late Prof. Gonzague Pillet (1958-2007). He obtained his Ph.D. in economics in 2005. His dissertation is entitled: "Prosperity and environmental quality". He also graduated from the Institute of international Studies in 1998 and obtained a postgraduate diploma in public policies analyses in 2001 from the University of Geneva. He is married and is the father of one child.

David Maradan is working on policy instruments for environmental protection as well as the economic analysis of pollution trends. He is active with Ecosys Ltd on various mandates for the OECD, the World Bank, the UNEP and the administrations of the Swiss Confederation and cantons as well as various foreign agencies and governments. He is also lecturer in the Geneva School of Business Administration and the Universities of Fribourg and Geneva where he teaches microeconomics, environmental economics as well as public finance. His current research interests are concentrated in environmental and ecological economics.

David Maradan is involved with sba on all the environmental economic analysis projects.


François Levarlet


François Levarlet holds a Ph.D. in environmental economics from the University of Paris 1 Pantheon Sorbonne.

He is partner of T33 a French Italian company active in the field of European public policies. On behalf of the company, he has conducted numerous assessments of programs and projects funded by the European Commission within the framework of cohesion policy. His focus areas are programming, implementation and evaluation of environmental and development policies concerning renewable energy, waste management, water cycle management, biodiversity management and natural hazard and technological risks management.

In sub-Saharan Africa he worked for UNDP in defining and drafting programs on Sustainable Development (Mali, Niger, Mauritania) and recently in Algeria (on behalf of EuropeAid) he has been involved in developing indicators for sustainable development.

For sba, he is working in Mali on Strategic Environmental Assessment of policies implemented in the sectors of agriculture, fisheries and livestock.


Grégoire Meylan


Votre texte ici!Grégoire Meylan is a research assistant and PhD student at the Institute for Environmental Decisions of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETH Zurich) since 2009. Educated in the United States of America and Switzerland, he has a Master of Science in environmental engineering from ETH Zurich (2007). The main focus of his studies was sanitation and resource management.

Right after obtaining his MSc, he completed his 13-month civil service as project assistant at sba. He was active mainly in cleaner production projects and environmental economic analyses. He worked another year at sba as project responsible in the field of cleaner production.

The topic of his PhD is the prospective and integrative assessment of waste management options in Switzerland. By combining life cycle assessment (LCA) methodology and economic input-output analysis, he is investigating optimization potentials and trade-offs related to such options within and beyond the system boundaries of waste management.

Grégoire Meylan is involved with sba as a junior expert on LCA.


Khulood Tubaishat


Graduating from University of London with a Masters Degree in Geography of Third World Development – Environmental Governance, Khulood Tubaishat established her career path as a an enthusiastic and dedicated environmental professional.

Khulood occupied various positions in a number of local and regional organizations including working as a Managing Director of ArabEnv – Environmental Solutions and Sustainability where she is managing a number of projects including Energy Efficiency and Environmental Education Initiative, in addition to working as an advisor of policies and program development for The Saudi Environment Society (SENS). Moreover; she has worked as a Regional Consultant on the "Participatory Assessment of Environment and Security issues in the Southern Mediterranean Region" Project in cooperation with the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), and the United Nations Environmental Programme (UNEP).

Khulood also worked as a Lead Specialist with the UNDP on Public Awareness and Participation, Capacity Building, Education, Women and Children issues. Working with the Royal Society for the Conservation of Nature (RSCN) Khulood served as an Environmental and Public Awareness specialist on the Dana Wildlife GEF-UNDP Project. Moreover, she is presently working as an Environmental outreach Specialist, with Massar Society (Syria) & sba.

Khulood holds a Bachelor's degree in Physics and computer sciences from Yarmouk University, and attended several professional training programs at Harvard and Yale Universities.


Luc Bardet


Votre texte ici!Luc Bardet founded in 2005 LogiWin Ltd., a company active in the development of internet and intranet sites for SMEs and NGOs.

After a practical diploma as carpenter, he got passionate for the new information and communication technologies and changed professional orientation benefiting from the internet boom in the 90's. Until 2005, he worked in a Swiss training center as specialised trainer of adults providing courses on internet and multimedia.

He continues to be active a senior trainer with SMEs and international companies.






Mohammed Ezzine


Votre texte ici!Mohammed Ezzine is Professor of Analytical Chemistry and Environmental Management at Hassan II University Mohammedia-Casablanca. He is also a certified consultant facilitator of Profitable Environmental Management, Chemicals Management where he was co-founder and President of GEP-Maroc association during four years. Educated in Morocco and France, he has a Bachelor in Chemistry (1988), a Doctorate in Analytical Chemistry (1994) and a PhD in Physico-chemistry (1998). He has published over 50 scientific articles and co-supervised 10 Doctorates. He is married and has 3 children.

Since 2000, he focused on leadership in higher education and management tools related to the environment, particularly in the industrial environment. He has assisted over 60 companies during the last five years. He is active in promoting industrial environmental management tools and working conditions improvement in developing countries especially in the Middle East and North Africa Region. He also promotes eco-efficiency, cleaner production, sustainable consumption and production, and corporate social responsibility principles in the same regions.

He collaborated with several organizations in the framework of national and international programmes (EVAL, TAM-GTZ, GTZ-PGPE, GRECO-CPRAC, IFC, sba, etc.) and he is regularly involved in development of new concepts and conducts research works in the field of sustainable development.

Mohammed Ezzine is involved with sba in promoting and applying the Best Environmental Practices Guide in the Moroccan hotel sector.


Moussa Kienta


Votre texte ici!Moussa Kienta is a forestry engineer and a specialist of continental fisheries and fish farming system (aquaculture). He is married and has 5 children. He studied in Mali and undertook numerous trainings in Africa (Burkina Faso, Ivory Coast, etc.), Yugoslavia, Belgium, Hungary and the United States.

Moussa Kienta works within the Agriculture Chamber of Mali as Technical Adviser in charge of the environmental issues, natural resources management, fisheries, aquaculture and training of managers and politicians. The Agriculture Chamber plays an active role for agriculture producers and technical staff namely as interface between the public authorities and the Agricultural Professional Organizations (OPA). Mr. Kienta acts also an independent consultant. He worked with numerous international and national organisations on the above mentioned domains.

Moussa Kienta works with sba in the framework of the Environmental Strategic Assessment of agriculture, fisheries and livestock in Mali.


Noël Thiombiano


Noël Thiombiano is doctor in economics and is specialized in economy of the environment and the natural resources. He is specialized in environmental economics, industrial economy, impact assessment, pollution (sound, atmospheric), climate change, climatic assurance, growth, poverty and environment links, rural questions as well as competitiveness. He is working at the CEDRES As deputy chief of the environmental economy laboratory where various themes related to sustainable development are dealt with.

He teaches economy of the environment and the natural resources, ecological planning, econometrics at Master level in several universities and institutes (Ouaga 2, Koudougou, Marien Gouabi, UCAO, ISEP, ESTA) in the Burkina Faso, Congo and Niger.

Noël Thiombiano is working with sba as a national expert in the framework of the project on economic valuation of natural resources and the environment in Burkina Faso.


Ouidad Tebbaa


Votre texte ici!Living in Marrakech (Morocco), she is professor, since 1987, at the University of Cadi Ayyad in Marrakech where she manages several research projects and coordinates Master and PhD programmes on fields related to tourism, cultural heritage and sustainable development. Member of UNESCO chair on landscape and environment, she published numerous articles on the subject and is actively involved for the protection of the material and immaterial cultural heritage.

Thus, she was, during many years, the general secretary of the association which worked for the recognition of Jemaa El Fna square in Marrakech as oral heritage of the humanity by the UNESCO. Together with a group of experts, she also received the Carlo Scarpa award for her work realized for the Agdal Garden in Marrakech.

Ouidad Tebbaa is developing with sba projects in relation with sustainable tourism, namely in the oasis region of South Morocco.


Paolo Baracchini


Votre texte ici!Paolo Baracchini has graduated as chemical engineering in 1981 (Polytechnical School of Genova). He is specialized in business management, he is accredited as 'European Quality Manager' (1996) and has obtained the quality of ISO 9001 auditor in 1996 and ISO 14001 environmental auditor in 1997. Additionally, he is qualified assessor and trainer for the EFQM model and for the Swiss ESPRIX award. In the area of health and safety, he is certified auditor (according to the SUVA certification) and acts as expert in the implementation of the OHSAS 18001.

During his professional career, Paolo Baracchini has worked as technical development, researcher, environment and quality manager in international companies active in several European countries. He is presently working with QS&P as specialized consultant in the management and implementation of the sustainable development within companies and administrations. Furthermore, he collaborates and intervenes in the framework of various training programs at the Swiss Technical School of Lausanne (EPFL), specialized high schools, universities and training institutes in Switzerland and abroad. He is also active with various associations in the field of management and sustainable development.

Author of numerous articles in his field of expertise, he published the book "Guide for the implementation of the environmental management in enterprises" with the PPUR of Lausanne.

Rachid Chaouki


Votre texte ici!Rachid Chaouki is manager and co-founder of Compétences Conseil since 2003. Educated in Morocco he has an engineering Diploma agronomy (1999) and is preparing his Doctorate in technology and management environmental (2008). He is married and has one girl.

After having worked several years in the different entities in Morocco, he fully dedicated his time to the activities of Compétences Conseil. He is active in environmental management. Additionally, he has a key role in applying environmental management tools with enterprises from the industrial and hotel sectors all over the Kingdom. He is a co-founder of the GEP-Morocco association and is an active member of the regional networks competences. He is regularly involved in teaching in several schools and university programmes in Morocco.

Raed Abu Hayyaneh


Raed Abu Hayyaneh was born in 1966, and has acquired a B.SC degree in Environment and Geology from Yarmouk University and pursued a prestigious Masters degree from Huddersfild University, UK in Environmental Education and Human Resources Development.

Abu Hayyaneh has worked in a number of posts in the field of development including, health, education, refugees, community, awareness and many more. Abu Hayyaneh worked as Program officer and Outreach specialist at Save the Children and as a Community Mobilization Specialist in a Health and family planning program at Save the Children & Jordan Health Communication Partnership JHCP one of USAID initiatives.

Abu Hayyaneh has a wide regional consultation experience that includes working as Environmental Awareness Specialist in the Red Sea and Gulf of Adan Conservation Program, and as an Environmental Education and awareness Specialist with the Saudi Environmental Society. Moreover, he is presently working as an Environmental outreach Specialist, with Massar Society (Syria) & sba.

Abu Hayyaneh has also published a number of publications on many development topics since the year 2000.


Rafiq Diab


Votre texte ici!Rafiq Diab is a regional consultant in water and environment working in the Middle East since 1990. He has a Master Degree in Environmental Civil Engineering from the University of Liverpool-England (1989) and a Post graduate Diploma in Auditing Environmental Systems from University of Aberystwyth – Wales (2004). He is married and has 3 boys.

Rafiq has for several years occupied senior managerial positions in large scale water and environmental infrastructure and institutional modernisation projects financed by international agencies and bodies, namely UN, EU, EIB and most recently GIZ. He was part of the team managing popular studies such as the inter-basin water transport of water ($ 4 M) and the decentralisation of water services in Syria.

His main interventions are in the formation and management of joint government and international experts' teams in addressing sensitive issues such as water tariff, enforcement of regulation, and allocation of investment budgets of € 683 M per year in the water sector in Syria.

He is popular for organising active learning sessions and dialogues on national reform issues while keeping diverse stakeholders involved in the process.

He is often part of sba team advising in environmental management and education projects.


Romana Rombe Bandeira


Votre texte ici!Romana Rombe Bandeira is, since 1992, Senior Lecturer in Forestry at the Eduardo Mondlane University in Mozambique. She holds a Ph.D. in Forestry from the University of Aberdeen UK, a MSc in Applied Entomology/Pest Management from the Imperial College of Science, Technology and Medicine at the London University and a Bachelor in Sciences with honors in Forestry Engineering. She is married and mother of two children.

Her current researches cover effects of anthropogenic activity on forest ecosystems, wildfire risk assessment, green house gases inventory in the field of land use changes and forestry, as well as pest management. She is involved in technical assistance and consultancy work on sustainable natural resources use, training needs assessment in agriculture related fields, and has a strong interest for research on climate change effects on forest ecosystems. Her expertise and professional experience include publications on forests and livelihoods, forest protection.

Romana Rombe Badeira is involved with sba in the Economic assessment of poverty and environment linkages in Mozambique.


Smaïl Aboulam


Votre texte ici!Smaïl Aboulam is the manager of the Moroccan company of Cotinuous Improvement and Sustainable Development (SADURA). He holds an engineering degree of Application in Environmental Protection (Morocco, 1998), a Diploma of In-depth studies in Sciences and Techniques of Waste (France, 2000) and a Doctorate in Engineering of Environment (France, 2005).

After having worked on applied research for the installation and operation of waste treatment and wastewater plants, he moved to the environmental evaluation and the dynamics of continuous improvement. Indeed, he accompanied private enterprises in their implementation management systems related to Environment, Quality, Health and Safety at workplace. Moreover, he worked with public administrations on the integrated evaluation of the environment situation at the level of Moroccan regions. Besides his technical interventions, he is regularly asked to conduct initial and continuing trainings in companies and universities.

Smaïl Aboulam is involved with sba in promoting and applying the Best Environmental Practices Guide in the Moroccan hotel sector.


Taladidia Thiombiano


Taladidia Thiombiano is founder of the Laboratory for Environmental Economics and Socio-econometrics (LEESE) within the CEDRES of which he is Director. He has a PhD in Economy of Development, a Master in Socio-econometrics, a Master in Econometrics and several Certificates in Environmental Economy.

Mr. Thiobiano has 34 year of experience as professor of econometrics, environmental economics and research methodologies. He has directed during 25 years Master and PhD thesis (50 graduates in environmental economic and 6 doctorates in the same field). Since 10 years, he is expert in environmental economics training in the West Africa region (Senegal, Niger, Togo, Benin) and France. Mr. Thiombiano has been director of the interuniversity postgraduate programme (PTCI).

Mr. Thiombiano is active as economic expert in several projects and programmes for governmental bodies in the West Africa region as well as for international cooperation agencies (United Nations, FAO, UEMOA, GTZ). Mr. Thiombiano is author of several books and articles on sustainable development and ervironmental economics.

Taladidia Thiombiano is working with sba as a national expert in the framework of the project on Economic valuation of natural resources and the environment in Burkina Faso.


Thérèse Huissoud


Votre texte ici!Thérèse Huissoud is an international consultant in evaluation. She has a Master in Geography from the University of Geneva Swizerland (1982) and a Postgrad Diploma in Planning and Public Management (IDHEAP, Lausanne, 1984). She is married and has 2 children.

After having worked several years in the field of land planning at the Institute for Environmental Construction of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne (ETH Lausanne), she focus her work on public health evaluation at the Institut for Social and Preventive Medicine in Lausanne where she is working since 1997.

Her main interventions in evaluation concerned the fields of drug issues and HIV / AIDS prevention. She was also involved with the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation in Mali as international consultant for the evaluation of their 20-year health programme in the region of Sikasso.

For 12 years, she supports and follows projects of micro-development in Mali (region of Bandiagara) where she lives since 2010.

She integrated the sba team in 2010 as expert in the field of health evaluation and is active in the Environmental Strategic Assessment of the health sector in Mali.


Vasco Correia Nhabinde


Votre texte ici!Vasco Correia Nhabinde is the Head of Department and Executive Director of the Centre of Studies in Economics and Management at the Faculty of Economics of the Eduardo Mondlane University. Educated in Mozambique, he did his Master (2000) in Italy on Economics of Regulation and PhD (2007) in South Africa on Economics. He is married and has 4 children.

He is a lecturer on Macroeconomics and Microeconomics since 2001 and on Industrial Economics since 2008. He worked as Chemical Analyst in the Department of Sanitary Engineering of the Eduardo Mondlane University for seven years. In the period going from October 1998 to September 1999 he worked for the National Directorate of Water Affairs. He has been involved in several researches on retirement funds, Government consumption, etc. He was also involved in market oriented studies such as market studies, revenue forecasting, and policy analysis, among others.

Vasco Correia Nhabinde is involved with sba in the Economic assessment of poverty and environment linkages in Mozambique.
