Urs Egger

Prof. Dr Urs Egger is Professor at the School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (HAFL) for Value Chain Management since 2012.

He obtained his Diploma in Agricultural Engineering at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich (ETHZ) in 1979. Between 1989 and 1995 he obtained his Doctorate and Habilitation at the Institute for Agricultural Economics. From 1981 to 1995 he was Assistant and Senior Assistant at the Institute for Agricultural Economics. He was also in charge of teaching at the HAFL in the Program for International Agriculture from 1993 to 1998. In 1996 he started teaching at the EPFZ in Agricultural Economics with a focus on development in Southern and Eastern countries.

His expertise ranges from analysis of agricultural markets to value chains (e.g. dairy, livestock, potatoes, cocoa, vegetables etc.), vocational training and skills development, SME promotion, micro finance, natural resource management, policy dialogue, project management and planning.

Prof. Dr Urs Egger was CEO of Swisscontact from 1995 to 2011, implementing projects for private sector development. He is also active in politics and is a member of the Zurich parliament since 2006. Since 2009, he has been Member of the Board of Trustees of Myclimate - a climate protection foundation. Passionate about youth development and football, he is president of FC Seefeld.
