Alessandra Giuliani has a PhD in Geography, a BSc in economics and a MSc in environmental management. She is a socio-economist specialising in the areas of agriculture and natural resources. She is married with two children.
She is currently working as researcher and lecturer at the Bern University of Applied Sciences, School of Agricultural, Forest and Food Sciences (HAFL), in Switzerland, focussing on market development, value chains, biodiversity, food security, and participatory research methods. She has several years of experience with the socio-economic applied research for development related to agrobiodiversity, pro-poor community development, and market chain development.
Previously she has worked at Bioversity International, an international research centre (CGIAR), where she had the opportunity to conduct reserch in various countries (in particular North Africa and West Asia). She is also a co-founder of the YPARD (Young Professionals for Agricultural Development) platform and is Vice-Chair of EFARD (European Forum on Agricultural Research for Development).
